Bookclub at the Bookshop

A superb evening was had at The English Bookshop on 14 November to discuss Neil Gaiman’s The Ocean at the End of the Lane. Thanks to all who attended and we’re looking for suggestions – which book shall we discuss next time?

The German book market is attracting a lot of interest:

The New Books in German journal recently published an interesting overview of the literary landscape in Zürich over the years. http://www.new-books-in-german.com/english/1227/357/357/129002/design1.html

And in this article, New Books in German takes a look at ‘the rise of literary agents in the German book market’. http://www.new-books-in-german.com/english/1495/395/395/129002/design1.html

Publishing Perspectives looks at the German market and the power of self-publishing: http://publishingperspectives.com/2013/11/how-self-publishing-led-amazon-to-german-ebook-dominance/

Exposition

Zürich-based writer Viktor Steiner blogged on the common writerly challenge of exposition—specifically exposing historical background ‘without being totally boring’. Viktor’s approach: Let the reader eavesdrop on some chit-chat during a public address. Take a look at Viktor’s blog for more: http://www.aquilaelba.info/history-lesson-in-dialogue/

Do you have any good tips for exposition? Please share in the comments!
